A brand I found inspiring many years ago,
and still to today have to be Sony PlayStation. Sony PlayStation is a company
that makes video games, as well as home consoles that allow you to view movies,
television, and live streaming events.
I have been faithful to this brand
through the good times as well as bad. It started in my childhood and continued
to amaze me. Describing the “Why, How, and What” is
something I really never thought about previous to purchasing the brand (Sinek, 2009). After watching the TED talks “How
Great Leaders Inspire Action” I can easily apply this concept.
I will start from “What”. What
PlayStation sells are mainly video games and access to movie/show platforms.
Over the years, there have been many gaming companies in competition, and Sony
PlayStation has held their position. Innovative graphics as well as working
with computer designers proved extremely successful in selling units and
remaining popular.
“How”, is by not outsourcing, but by
having labs where items are assembled and tested. When a system is designed, it
is held to the highest level of secrecy. The release of a new system is a worldwide
event. Sony caters to millions of fans distribution demands.
Lastly, “Why”. What lead me to fall in love with the brand as
well as others is their philosophy “Live in your world, play in ours.” When I
was younger, my life consisted of school and part time work. Most of the time,
I wanted something to take me away. I used to watch cartoons, and read comics, but
when I played video games, I was in control of the person in the fantasy. As
years went by the graphics became cleaner, and the adventures became more
exciting. I felt like the creators spoke directly to me, and what I needed. I
truly believe this PlayStation has been so successful, because they speak the
language of there customers.
I am in the 13.5% known as the “Early
Adaptors” (Sinek, 2009). The first example
is when I bought my Sony PlayStation 4. Many people were afraid for various
reasons on why the PlayStation 4 would be a bad buy. Me being a long time fan
knew what to expect, because I kept up with the most recent news about the
product. I knew it was experimental buying it on its release date, but I wanted
to take the chance.
Another example is my first new car I
bought when I was in the military. I was always a fan of the Ford Mustang
brand. In 2009, I had an opportunity to buy a 2010 mustang, and I did. Many of
my friends and associates said, “You don’t know anyone with one, so how do you know
you will like it?” I simply told them, “I’m taking a chance because I can. Its
an opportunity that I’m able to take, so I’m taking it.” Regardless on what
people thought, I liked the style, the mileage and the fact it was a mustang. I
was very happy with my choice.
