Tim Berry and Bryan Howe

Business plans are key when presenting to investors. This gives investors a professional way to look at a business plan pitched, and how to understand the mechanics of it all.
Two Business plan experts I’m going to talk a out is Tim Berry and Bryan Howe.
Tim Berry was refereed to as “The Obi Wan of business plans” by Pamela Slim, best selling author of Escape from Cubicle Nation (Berry, 2015).
·      Tim Berry has a MBA degree and a MA in journalism with honors from the university of Oregon. Also has a BA in Literature magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame.
·      He’s not only an expert in the field of business planning, he is also a entrepreneur.
·      He is the founder of Bplans.com, and chairperson of Palo Alto software. Which he grew from 0 to 40 employees, and making multimillion-dollar sales, no debt, and 70% market shares without outside investments (Berry, 2015).
The list goes on with publish material too far to count. Tim Berry is not just a expert, but a master (Berry, 2015).
The second person is Bryan Howe. Bryan is the president of the number 1 Business plan consultant agency Master Plans: The business plan experts (Howe, 2015).
·      Started his company MP in 2002 as a soul proprietorship (Howe, 2015).
·      In 2004 he created a team plan, since then the company has worked with over 10,000 plus (Howe, 2015).
·      Achievements
2004—The first Alight Planning Certified Consultant
2007—Inc 500 list #111 in the US and #2 in Portland with over 2000% growth
2008—Honored to join Friends of the Children Marketing Committee
2009—Honored as one of Portland's Top 40 Under 40 business people in 2008 by the Portland Business Journal based on business practices and giving back to the community.
To every business, there are critical and key components to keeping it not just afloat but successful (Howe, 2015).
Tim Berry makes it very clear that there is a cycle when doing a business. Plan, Run, Review and Revise. These steps allow you to save money, refine, make positive changes and figure out if your business is working (Berry, 2015).
When is comes to Bryan Howe in 2004, he couldn’t handle the work because it was too much. He started hiring people to handle different parts of the company (EB5 Investors, 2015). This is something that many businesses either succeed of fail at, because the company is now getting larger.

These are the key lessons I take away from them. Properly analyze your business and review all areas of it. This gives you a good look at the status your business is in. Also, when your business gets too large to handle by yourself, work with those who can support you in the areas you need.

Nintendo will always be the beginning of my epic Adventure!

Many of us gamers have fond memories starting a game. We all have our own story, kind of like a super hero origin story. Mines started with Nintendo and Super Mario Brothers.
I remember going to my aunts apartment with my mom. My cousin always had great stuff, and I didn't really care until I seen my first gaming system. The Nintendo Entertainment System, and the game he was playing was Super Mario Brothers. Back then it was the cartridge with the Duck Hunt game with it. I asked him to play but being the youngest I had to wait my turn, but just watching him play gave me a feeling of wow.
When he finally gave me the controller, I didn't even know how to hold it. My cousin showed me, and I felt I was ready. With great disappointment as fast as I started the game I died from my first Goomba.
Something happened to me that day that could only be explained as life changing!
A fire boiled in my stomach, and I became angry. Angry at the game because I fail. I had 2 choices, either give up this stupid game thing that wasn't cooler then transformer toys, or pick up that controller and destroy that Goomba, and every Goomba after that!

Later on the list to follow as my victims by controller:

  • King Koopa
  • Ganondorf
  • All of Dr. Wily Robots
  • Gyaba
and multiple former best friends due to super smash brother, Golden Eye and Perfect Dark...

This is my origin story, and I want to thank Satoru Iwata. Thank you for giving us our Origin Story as a gamer.

DC is on Fire

Over the last couple of weeks, DC comics have been making big waves in the entertainment industry.
In the video game world, DC has given fans a chance to become The Batman. The latest next generation console game Batman: Arkham Knight had fans stunned in amazement at the 2015 E3 convention. The game received some of the highest ratings in the gaming community. The last Batman titled game didn’t receive nearly enough praise as Batman: ArkhamKnight. Breaking ground in the gaming world for future DC titles to follow.

Now, 3 days ago at the world famous Comic Con held in San Diego, CA. DC reinvents itself through film. A second trailer has premiered for the long awaited movie Batman vs. Superman. As well as the greatly anticipated return of the Joker in Suicide Squad. The 2 movie trailers set the standard for this years Comic Con.

The reason for the anticipation is simply, the films to come. Marvel studios have created a type of formula to creating exciting movies. Re-create a fan base for a old fan favorites, and stretch the boundaries of the fictional universe by adding characters from the comic book universe. It looks like DC comics have done the same. With all fresh faces as well as top of the line special effects, we can expect a rival to Marvel Studios onslaught of star power in the box office.

This is a complete 360 degree turn for DC Comics. Fans saw DC as a success in the television ring with shows like Flash and Arrow, but their movies had been heavy criticized due to failures in the past and movies that felt like they were rushed. With the help of Comic Con, DC has set the bar high and it appears they will be holding on to the prime time comic spot for a long time.

A New Spin on Distribution

I reported in class in a presentation titled current events. About a FOX network show being cancelled, and Hulu picking it up.
This is something that really stood out to me when it came to current events and distribution. This is a growing trend and considering I’m a fan of The Mindy Project I was really excited to see the show get picked up for another 26 more seasons.
I believe this is a sign of things to come, considering over the years many family and homes have been switching from regular cable network and satellite to online streaming such as Netflix and Hulu.
According to Forbes magazine, “Young adults are more likely to have zero TV.” This study is from observing Nielsen boxes around the nation. It leave us wondering what’s the reason for this sudden switch.
It has a lot to do with the variety and accessibility of shows that fans want to see. Not to mention the cheap price of access, for the online streaming.
When it comes to Variety Netflix and Hulu hold hundreds of movies in their data banks ready for streaming on the drop of a dime. This is the same for Hulu, with their selection of classic movies and shows, independent as well as most recent, it feeds an audience in all matter of streaming.
As far as accessibility, you are able to get Netflix and Hulu on smart televisions, tablets, smartphones as well as gaming consoles. There isn’t a reason to not have it.
Some might say this is hurting the networks on a bigger scale then seen. As far as the Huffington Post stated, “Yes, Netflix and Hulu are starting to kill cable.” It is shown that cable companies are actually disconnecting lines, and taking down satellites because of the decline in customers. I personally think this isn’t the end of cable but it is defiantly giving them something to think about when it comes to their cable prices and packages.
I personally am glad that there are options for people like me who want to view movies as my career and part of who I am. I love movies and love the way we are able to view what we want.

Liabilities

Having an editing suite can cause many problems law wise.
One might fall under breach of contract. Considering each customer will have a different price since work varies. A customer might feel they are entitled to more time to edit than they paid for. Therefore, they might want more time for no pay.
Another might be distribution issue. Since they are editing video, if someone gets a hold of the media before the distribution date, my company might be held accountable.
Lastly, insurance on material or media edited. Since technology isn’t 100% and sometimes it fails. If I don’t have insurance on a hard drives, I can get in major trouble if a system hard drive crash. I can lose information that might take time and money to get back, or never able to retrieve again. Resulting in loss of customers and possible court case.
Some law suites that’s going on today as posted on Law360.com are, The Google ruling limit video privacy law, Sony tries to avoid redo in Ghostface Killah IP suit, and the fear Netflix has if AT&T merges with DirecTV.
The case with Google has to do with allegations of Google and Viacom monitoring children’s Internet activity. The reason why I consider this important is because, if Google is found guilty of doing this, that can lead to restricting Google and their activity. Anyone who wants to be seen in the Internet wants maximum exposure on a site like Google. This could possibly make it difficult for small business to shine.
With Sony and Ghostface Killah (Rapper), this is about the rapper using copy written material in 2000 that is now being looked at in detail. I can easily be a victim to something like this when editing a video or media. Copyright laws differ depending on the material, company and situation. So this is something I will have to be careful of when starting my own company.
Lastly the fear Netflix has if AT&T and DirecTV. Netflix feels that if these competing names merge it will be the end of alternate streaming.  It will limit streaming and stop companies like Netflix from reaching customers. This affects my clients and me because companies such as Netflix and Hulu helps young film makers promote and stream independent movies. These are the same people looking for editing suites to edit their material. If the merger happens then I can expect a decline in customers, which isn’t good at all.
